The Continuing Care Reporting system (CCRS) is designed to collect and report data on residents in publicly funded designated continuing care beds across Canada. These continuing care beds may be of two types; either hospitals that have designated extended care, auxiliary, chronic, or complex care beds; or, residential care facilities such as personal care homes, nursing homes, or long term care facilities. The data is collected using the interRAI MDS 2.0 assessment tool and includes socio-demographic, administrative and clinical information including health and functional status measures.
This data is used for care planning and analysis of resident risks and outcomes over time. At the management level, the data is used to support funding, accountability, and quality improvements.
One long term care home in Newfoundland and Labrador started to report to the CCRS in 2009. The number of participating facilities is expected to grow during 2010.
