The Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) is a national database that contains data on hospital discharges submitted to the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI). The DAD contains demographic, administrative and clinical data. In Newfoundland and Labrador 34 hospitals submit inpatient and/or surgical day care data to the DAD.
Data is used to support decision-making at the hospital as well as at the regional and provincial levels. It is also used for provincial and national comparative reporting, resource utilization analysis as well as approved research.
